RESEARCH LIBRARY The museum library was founded in October, 1990. Nowadays library funds contain more than 17 thousand units of issue which reflect the concept of the museum development (oceanology, maritime biology, history of seafaring, history of shipbuilding and etc.). About 1000 audio and video documents on different data carriers and more than 50 domestic and foreign magazines are also included in the previous figure. The library keeps and enlarges a memorial fund which includes 14 libraries of oceanologists: P. Shirshov’s, B. Stockman’s, A. Dobrovolski’s, P. Bezrukov’s, V. Zenkovich’s and many others oceanologists. Rare and value publications became a part of the museum fund: “Spars and Rigging” by F. Middendorf (1905), “Life of the Sea” by K. Keller (1905), “Works of Saint-Petersburg Naturalists’ Society” (1886), “Works of Russian Polar Station in Novaya Zemlya” (1886), “Society of Nickolaev Shipyards” (1911) and many others. The library fund is recorded in two catalogues: alphabetical (paper and electronic) and classed ones; and also in card files: “Serial Publications”, “Scientific-Research Vessels”, “Scientific Stations” and “The Sea in Painting, Music and Literature”. The library works for museum staff, research officers of Institutes and students. It gives information for visitors upon their requests.
