In July, 2004, the Museum of the World ocean accepted a gift – the equestrian statue of the Empress Elizaveta Petrovna installed in Baltiisk, the Kaliningrad region. The author is Georgi Frangulyan, Honored Artist of the Russian Federation. In March, 2005, the museum got a safeguard for the monument. Experts have highly evaluated it. The sculpture was created in 2003. It is the biggest female equestrian statue in the world. Museum workers monitor its conditions in co-operation with specialists from the Spetsproektrestavratsiya Scientific-Research Institute and the “Nasledie” fund (St. Petersburg). A fort is a pedestal. The museum plans to install a memorial exposition “Russia at the Baltic” to show the firmness of Russian borders, historical reasons for Russians’ existence at the Baltic and to attract tourists.
