The Past…

The exhibition building “Packgaus” used to be a warehouse. So many goods had been under this roof, but things always found their owner and a warehouse served as a transshipment point. This meaning is saved in the present usage of the building. A museum is a theatre of things, and exhibitions are a temporary location of items. That is why the exhibition building was named “Packgaus” – it is used for displaying Russian and foreign exhibitions.

Restoration works on recreation of the exhibition building “Packgaus” were made within a year or less. Experience of the Koenig Gates restoration contributed to it. A solemn opening ceremony was held on July 13, 2007, and it was a part of the City’s Day programme. The exhibition building “Packgaus” is the only one in the city meeting the requirements of the best museums. The hall is equipped with «Hanwell» radio climate-control system and necessary security lines. The show windows are equipped with light-emitting diodes – this illumination does not spoil museum items. Nowadays Kaliningrad can receive mobile exhibitions of the highest level.

Six exhibitions have already been demonstrated in the “Packgaus”. The museum plans to develop co-operation with the central Russian museums according to the “Russian Museums to Museums of Kaliningrad” programme and extension of foreign contacts.
