The history of the Russian Undersea fleet

 Rescue accoutrement of a submariner

You step into the first compartment through the bow hatch. The exposition “From the history of the Russian Undersea Fleet” is located here. It reflects the main periods of this history by models, photographs and texts. Six 533-millimeter bow torpedo tubes are located here two-rowed. The maximum number of torpedoes – 22 items including reserve ones.

The second compartment contains commander’s and officers’ cabins, messroom and hydroacoustic deckhouse.

The third compartment is a central station. The compartment is full of equipment and devices by which cruising, submersion, surfacing and weapons of the submarine are controlled. Periscopical eyepieces, “Flag” and “Nakat” indicators of radar stations, navigation equipment (“Kurs-5” gyrocompass, “LR-2” log, NEL-5 echo sounder, EL-1 ice fathometer and ARP-53 radio direction finder) are located here.

In the fourth compartment you will find a chief-mess, a caboose and a radiocommunication deckhouse.

The fifth compartment demonstrates three 37D diesels of 2 000 hp each. They work while the submarine is at surface position and the speed is 16 knots.

Three electric motors for submergence navigation are installed in the next compartment. There is also electric motor of economic speed.

The last compartment is a stern torpedo compartment. There are 533-millimeter torpedo tubes, torpedo firing control and berths of a crew. There is also an exposition dedicated to the tragic history of atomic submarines – loss of the Komsomolets and the Kursk. The flagstaff from the Komsomolets, photographs by submersible vehicles at the place of tragedy and pieces of light and firm hulls of the Kursk make us remember about those tragic days.
