There is a radioamateurs’ station with R2MWO callsign (Russia, Kaliningrad, the Museum of the World ocean) on the boat deck of the Vityaz in the Museum of the World ocean. Boris Osmak and Victor Loginov, the famous radioamateurs from Kaliningrad, were the initiators of the club. R2MWO amateur short-wave radio station has been on the air for ten years. During this time a lot of communication sessions were conducted both with Russian and foreign colleagues. Radio station crew is a member of the “Arctic” (¹272) international radio club, “Free Union of Still Active Marine Radio Operators” club (MF-RUNDE ¹725) of Hamburg (Germany) and it always takes part in Russian and foreign competitions of radioamateurs and has got prize papers.
The Museum of the World ocean invites you to take part in a “SRV VITYAZ” radioamateur certificate programme which consists of three stages. Participants will be awarded with the following certificates:
“Vityaz-1” certificate, initiated in honor of the corvette Vityaz (1862-1882).
QSOs/SWLs with 20 countries should be conducted.
“Vityaz-2” certificate, initiated in honor of the corvette Vityaz (1886-1893).
QSOs/SWLs with 30 countries should be conducted.
“Vityaz-3” certificate, initiated in honor of the scientific-research vessel Vityaz (1947-1979) moored on the Pregol river in the centre of the city on July 12, 1994, for good and become the main exhibit of the Museum of the World ocean.
QSOs/SWLs with 60 countries (territories) the Vityaz has visited during its oceanic navigations should be conducted. Valid are QSOs/SWLs conducted by any kind of modulation at any range starting from 22.04.1979. Please, send only GCR without QSL but an initiator has a right to inquire QSL for control.
The owner of all the three certificates becomes an honorable “Vityaz-3” radio cabin member and is awarded with a VITYAZ RADIO HONOUR ROLL badge, his/her QSL is put into a memorable album which is kept aboard the ship (please, enclose QSL to the last application). There are 105 honorable club members of a radio cabin today.
