  The screw with autographs
  of the museum friends

Before three years of the foundation of the Museum of the World ocean the museum friends’ club appeared in 1987. Various people became its members: M. Lif, chief of an experimental crew on underwater and technical works; L. Ignatov, boat model maker and captain second rank and the Smiryagins, artists. Membership was marked by numbered bricks made from the old deck of the Vitiaz. Y. Ivanov, writer, possessed the first number. In that time nobody was sure about the museum foundation, but those people believed that they would be able to save the Vitiaz and they did it. Owing to the club members the Museum of the World ocean has become as it is.

But even nowadays it is not enough of cordial and financial attention to cultural institutions, and sponsors’ support is becoming a need. It is a vital problem today because state museums have shifted to the system of the Federal Treasury. It means that in order to implement educational and cultural projects and programmes a museum has to search for non-budget financial sources.

On its professional holiday the Museum of the World ocean thanked everybody who had contributed to the preservation and development of one among the most unique maritime museums in the world. The Amber Card was given for life to the club members since its foundation in 1987. And the very best were lucky to leave their autographs in the so called Commemorative Ship’s Screw: V. Shipov, who hoisted a flag aboard the Vitiaz and became its godfather; the academician D. Likhachev, who called upon to save the dying and plundered Vitiaz, Y. Matochkin, who opened the first exposition and A. Zhivago, the participant of the first expedition aboard the Vitiaz

Coral and Pearl Cards, Certificate of a corporate club member and Honorary Certificate of a corporate club member were handed according to the charitable contribution rate.

The Museum of the World ocean sincerely thanks all its like-minded people.
